You have a dirty carpet. Mud, blood, grape juice, wine and Fido have left a big spot in the middle, right next to your favorite chair. You don't have the money to get a professional steam cleaning, nor would you have the time to spend waiting on them to come to your home.       Spray the cleaning product thinly over the mess, or the whole carpet depending on how much of the carpet is soiled. There are a number of products to choose in the cleaning aisle of your local grocery store.

      Rub the product into the stain. A lot of products say you don't have to rub, but rubbing the products into the stains helps tremendously. You may need to spray more directly into the stain you are trying to remove as you rub it.

      Let the product sit for a few minutes. This allows the product to break down the stain further. You'll need the help with stains like blood and wine.

      Vacuum up the area where you've sprayed and rubbed. You may need to go over the area a few times with the vacuum to get the product out.

      Repeat as necessary. Especially in the case of blood, grape juice and wine, you will need to do the process more than once.
