Lace Baseball Shoes

Building a sound foundation for baseball training starts with your feet. Making sure your baseball shoes, also called cleats, fit properly will not only get you the best grip on the field, but will also help prevent blisters, pressure points and pinching. Baseball shoes are more advanced than ever, offering as many performance-enhancing bells and whistles as you're willing to pay for. But before the stabilizers, molded foam soles, forefront protection and mid-foot webbing aside, the first, simple thing to get right is lacing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Thread the shoelace through holes 11 and 12 in the diagram. They should go in from the top, then under. Hold up the ends to make sure you have equal lengths on both sides.

  2. Step 2

Cross the laces diagonally and move up one hole, inserting the end of the shoelace into the underside and pulling it through the top. So, 11 should cross over to 10 and 12 should cross over to 9. Pull the laces taut and continue criss-crossing all the way to the top.

  3. Step 3

Adjust the laces with your foot in the cleat so the shoe fits is comfortable but snug. Tie them in a bow and lay the flap down on top.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're using flat laces, make sure they don't twist while lacing: They should lie flat all the way up to keep from putting pressure points on your foot.
