How to Read to Your Unborn Baby

It is soothing for a baby to listen to his mother read to him, and you can start reading to your baby long before he is born. You can sit and read to your unborn child whenever you get a chance. This will be a quiet, relaxing time for you to connect with your baby. You can choose anything to read, as the main thing is for the baby to hear your voice. A baby can learn to recognize familiar voices while still in the womb, so important bonding can take place before the baby is born.

Instructions

1. Play soothing music, such as easy listening or classical, in the area where you will be reading to your baby.

2. Select a book of poetry, a children's book, the Bible or a novel that you are currently reading.

3. Settle into a comfortable position. Have a drink close at hand to soothe your throat while reading aloud.

4. Quietly begin to read aloud. Use different tones just as if you were reading to a group of children. Make the sounds of your words interesting.

5. Place your hand on your abdomen if the baby stirs. Keep reading as you rub or pat the area where you can feel your little one's movements.
