How to Decorate a Sun Porch
Decorating a sun porch can be an enjoyable experience and a reflection of who you are and what you like. A sun porch can follow the general decor of your existing rooms or have a motif of its own. By design, sun porches are bright, well ventilated and well lit, so house plants usually thrive in this type of room. Some sun porches are not heated during the winter months, so that should be a consideration when choosing the elements to include in your sun porch decor. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Choose a color for the screen porch walls that will reflect the sunlight and your personality. Light colors like cream, pale yellow and sky blue work well. Greens and violets can be nice too, as long as they are pale. Light shades of earth tones are more neutral but reflect light well.

2
Let your window treatments reflect the air flow of the room. If you will be allowing natural air to flow through, choose airy curtains or sheers for your windows. Billowy valances work well, also. Bamboo blinds are light, flexible and earthy.

Houseplants usually thrive on a sun porch. By having a variety of plants on the floor, on plant stands and in hanging baskets, you can create depth to the space. When purchasing and placing plants, consider how much access pets and children will have to them, as many house plants can be toxic if ingested.

A few motif ideas include: wrought iron, nautical, tropical, garden and jungle. Simple furniture can make a sun porch a relaxing place to sit. Keep in mind that sun fade will occur on many materials. Outdoor furniture may better resist sun fade.

5
Change your sun porch decor as often as you like. If you tire of one motif, redecorate the room. A neutral base color on the walls will make this transition even easier. Keep your motifs in boxes or plastic tubs for quick access.
