Step 1
Dig a hole in the ground about two feet deep, and about the same width and shape as your old, broken garbage can. The shape does not have to be an exact science, however part of your garbage can is going to have to fit into the hole that you are digging.

Step 2
Cut the old useless garbage can in half to recycle it into a compost bin. Save the top half of the garbage can and the lid. This is the part you are going to recycle and prevent from landing in a landfill.

Step 3
Wedge the old garbage can top piece into the hole that you have dug. Put the lid on the garbage can. Use this for you new, recycled compost bin that has a lid.
