Things You'll Need:
- You
- Your Dog
- Yummy Treats
-
Step 1
Begin training your dog at a good time in a good place.
When your dog is hungry and alert, get your dog treats out and head to a quiet location, free from distractions. -
Step 2
Stand facing your dog and take hold of his collar with your left hand.
-
Step 3
Hold a treat in your right hand, let your dog smell the treat, and then move the treat slowly in a wide circle counter-clockwise (allowing the dog to move his head and body to “follow” the motion of the treat). This will cause the dog to spin in place. When the dog has made the full circle, give him the treat.
-
Step 4
Do this a few more times without saying anything, and then begin to quietly tell the dog “spin” just before you begin moving the treat.
-
Step 5
Once the dog is starting to get the hang of it, you can let go of his collar and let him spin under his own efforts. From that point, you start making the “circle” you draw with your hand smaller and smaller, until the dog is spinning on his own with just a little movement of your hand.
-
Step 6
You can teach your dog to spin the other way, too – you might use the commands “wind” (for spinning left) and “unwind” (for spinning right).
