Free dogs are available to anyone who's fully committed and ready to take on the responsibility of pet ownership. Using online resources, you can find free dogs of any age and breed.

Things You'll Need:

  • Responsibility and stability to become a dog owner
  • PC with internet connection
  1. Step 1

First, you need to decide just what kind of dog you want. There are so many free dogs available for adoption out there, that you'll need to narrow down your search a bit. Take into consideration how much space each breed will need, how much spare time you have to walk the dog, etc. There are some helpful guides on choosing the perfect dog also available on eHow.

  2. Step 2

Once you know the dog you want, go to www.petfinder.com. Petfinder is a wonderful website that searches all animal shelters in your area, and organizes dogs available for adoption by age and breed. Be careful, though, because some of the descriptions are written in first person (in the dog's voice) and can be somewhat irresistable!

  3. Step 3

Make sure you find out all available information about the free dog: is it spayed or neutered? What shots has it had? Medical history? How did it end up in an animal shelter or rescue?

Tips & Warnings
  • Some dogs on petfinder will require an "adoption fee," if you really need your dog to be free, make sure you ask about that up front
