Customer loyalty is a key to any successful business or organization. It increases sales, participation and memberships, and it also spreads word of mouth advertising to others. A well designed email marketing campaign can be beneficial to big and small businesses, non-profit organizations, and other associations. Although this may seem like a tedious task, email marketing websites have some great options that facilitate the process. So if you are ready to add this communication to improve your organization, follow these steps to get started!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before you can send out any email marketing campaigns you must build up an email list. Your members or customers must opt in and agree to you sending them newsletters or other promotional material. If you own a brick and mortar business, create an opt in, or sign up, sheet and offer it to each person that visits. If you are online, create a sign up form on your website or blog.

  2. Step 2

Research the email marketing options online. There are many different companies that offer email marketing services and options, all for different prices. Many also offer a free trial period so you can test the program out, IContact, ConstantContact, and MailChimp to name a few (see resource section below). Pick your email marketing program by considering the amount of emails you will send monthly, the fees, the ease of use, and anything else that is important to you.

  3. Step 3

Now that you have built an email list and have picked an email marketing website to use, create your first email newsletter or other campaign. There are many tips and tricks to these procedures online so educate yourself on them and hit the send button! Make sure your email is personalized, has great content, and provides value to the reader.

  4. Step 4

Analyze the provided data to see how well your email marketing campaign performed. This includes how many of the emails are opened, how many clicks occur, and how many people unsubscribe, or opt out, of your email marketing campaign. This opt out option should be available to all customers or members and should be an easy process to complete.

  5. Step 5

Learn from your past campaigns and always educate yourself on different email marketing strategies. Use this knowledge to create your future campaigns and improve their overall effectiveness.
    * If you are uncertain about whether or not this will work well for your business, I recommend the free trial. This is how I, along with others, have discovered the benefits it can have on your business.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many companies offer email campaign templates as well as templates for newsletters.
  • Educate yourself on the rules and regulations of email marketing and current anti-spam laws. These can change so always stay up to date with them.
