Fleas not only bite our dogs and cats they can bite us. The bite of a flea is extremely itchy. It is important to practice flea control on your pets and in your home to keep yourself from being bitten. Sometimes fleas are out of our control because they can live in the grass outside or near a sandy area. It's not possible to completely avoid them.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Flea bites will occur mostly around your feet, ankles or lower leg area. It is possible to get flea bites elsewhere, but this is where they happen mostly.

  2. Step 2

Flea bites are raised, red, small welt-like, itchy skin eruptions. Flea bites itch intensely.

  3. Step 3

If you suffer from flea bites, wash the area with an antiseptic soap, pat dry. Do not rub the area dry, this will only make the itching worse. Apply ice for no more than a few minutes at a time.

  4. Step 4

Over the counter medications such as Calamine lotion will help to stop the itch. Antihistamines such as Benadryl taken in either pill or liquid form will also help to control the itch.

  5. Step 5

Itching from flea bites can also be relieved by soaking the area in Epsom salts and lukewarm water. Do not use hot water, this will intensify the itch.

  6. Step 6

To relieve the itch caused by flea bites make a paste of baking soda and cool water and apply to bites.

  7. Step 7

Tea Tree Oil works well to stop the itch of flea bites. Tea Tree Oil is also a natural antiseptic will help in preventing any infection.

  8. Step 8

If the flea bites or the area surrounding them begins to look infected seek the advice of a doctor or if you develop any cold or flu-like symptoms.
