Things You'll Need:
- Water
- Shade or indoor protection
- Small pool
-
Step 1
Keep plenty of water available. Dogs pant a lot during hot weather. Make sure their water bowl is filled with clean water. It will have to be changed periodically throughout the day to keep it clean.
-
Step 2
Avoid cars. During hot weather, don't take your dog in the car. It only takes a few minutes for a car to heat up. Even if you take the dog with you on errands, when you return to the car, it may be too hot for the dog.
-
Step 3
Avoid the hours of 10 to 4. Walk your dog in the early morning and in the evening. If you live in a humid area, carry water with you for the walk. Stay out of the direct sun and avoid the hot tar.
-
Step 4
Clip your dog. If your dog has long hair, clip it to one inch in length. If the hair is too short, the dog can get sunburned.
-
Step 5
Prepare a pool for the dog. On hot days when air conditioning is not available, consider a child's plastic pool for the dog. The water will help lower the dog's temperature.
