Building a website requires that you work on one page at a time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before you starting to build your own website keep in mind that you can create a website on your computer and never publish it online if you don’t have a host.

If you are planning on publishing your website online you need to have a web Hosting Provider. There are innumerable Hosting sites but my personal favorite is searching for “Free Web Hosts” Although with free host you get limited space you can still publish your website fro free.
You can also buy space from a host is space is not big enough.

  2. Step 2

Now having a domain is totally up to you.
A domain name is not necessary. You can put up a site on free hosting or even paid hosting plans without a domain name. A domain name gives you extra branding so people remember your name easily. But domain names cost money, from 8 to 35 dollars.

  3. Step 3

Once you've gotten a domain and decided on your URL, you can start planning your site.
    Decide:
    • Type of site - Most websites are either news/information, product, or reference sites. (IS what you want to focus on)
    • Navigation - The navigation affects the information architecture of your site.
    • Content - Content is the actual pages you'll be building. (What you will be writing)

  4. Step 4

    Be familiar with:
    • Design Basics - The elements of good design and how to use it on websites.
    • Learning HTML - HTML is the building block of a Web page. While it's not absolutely required, you'll do better if you learn HTML than if you don't.
Publishing your website is a matter of getting the pages you created and setting them up. Contact your provider if not sure.

  5. Step 5

    • How to Upload
The easiest way to promote your website is through search engine optimization or SEO. Other ways to promote your site include: word of mouth, email, and advertising. Try inluding your URL on all your correspondence.

Tips & Warnings
  • Maintenance is very a very important part of website design to keep your page looking good. Testing your site as you're building it and then after it's been live for a while is very important.
