For those who enjoy angels, crafts, and jewelry, there is no better craft project to undertake than this decoupage angel jewelry box. The finished product is beautiful and functional. By combining the ease of decoupage craft with simple painting techniques, you will have a lovely angel jewelry box to keep your treasures in.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wooden or paper mache box with lid
  • 2 inch by 1 inch block of styrofoam
  • Heavy card stock or light cardboard
  • Velvet or other beautiful fabric
  • Clear drying craft glue
  • White primer paint
  • Colored paint of your choice
  • Decoupage medium or watered down craft glue
  • Cut out images of angels
  1. Step 1

The first step to create a decoupage angel jewelry box is to prepare the outside of the box. You should start by using the sandpaper to make sure the wood is perfectly smooth. If you are using a paper mache box, this will not be an issue. After sanding, use the white acrylic paint to paint a primer layer to seal the wood or paper mache. Allow this to dry completely.

  2. Step 2

After the primer coat is dry, you can paint the jewelry box in any color that you like. It is a good idea to paint it in a similar color to that in the room it will be in. To make an especially beautiful jewelry box, you might want to try a faux finish painting technique, such as rag rolling or marbleizing. Whatever painting method you choose, it is important for the end product to be very smooth.

  3. Step 3

You can find pictures of angels in magazines, in free clip art sites on the internet, on wrapping paper, and in specialty decoupage print packages you can buy at the craft store. Using your sharpest scissors, cut out the angel pictures. Before applying any glue or decoupage medium, position the angels on the block and decide on a pleasing arrangement.

  4. Step 4

The final step is to attach the angel pictures to the box. This should be done by painting a thin layer of decoupage medium onto the cut out paper and sticking it to the box. This should be covered over with decoupage medium for a smooth finish.

  5. Step 5

If you desire, you can line your decoupage angel jewelry box with velvet or another nice fabric. To make separate sections for earrings, you can use velvet covered card stock to build dividers. A ring holder can be fashioned from the block of styrofoam covered with velvet. Simply cut slits into the styrofoam and push the velvet down into them. The rings would slide into the slits for safekeeping.

  6. Step 6

Creating a decoupage angel jewelry box is a great craft that can be completed in one weekend. People of all skill levels will be able to do this craft. All that is required is cutting, painting, gluing, and sanding with sandpaper. At the end, your angel craft jewelry box can be displayed proudly on your dressing table or nightstand.
