How to Use Captopril

Captopril is a prescription medication used to control high blood pressure and some types of heart failure. The medication works by relaxing blood vessels, which allows an increased amount of blood flow to be pumped to and from the heart.

Instructions

    • 1

Take each prescribed dose of Captopril on an empty stomach, either one hour before eating or two hours after eating. Ask your doctor about taking Captopril with food if upset stomach occurs from taking the medication.

    • 2

Drink one full 8 oz. glass of water with each dose of Captopril.

    • 3

Drink at least 6 8 oz. glasses of water or other liquids a day to prevent dehydration while taking Captopril. Water, clear fluids and juices are good drinks for hydration.

    • 4

Decide whether to take a missed dose or skip it. Generally, a missed dose should be taken if you remember it within two hours of your scheduled dose. If more than two hours has passed from your scheduled time to take Captopril, skip the dose.
