How to Heal Blemishes

Clean skin is one sign of good health. While blemishes can occur at any time, those who have a regular beauty routine that includes regular face washing will see a reduction in irritation. If you have a blemish, it's best to clean the area and apply an acne cream or lotion each night until the blemish disappears. Do not try to remove the blemish or reduce its size, as this will cause further irritation and scarring. Using a facial mask once or twice a week can help remove dirt and bacteria from pores.

Things You'll Need

  • Hand towel
  • Warm water
  • Facial cleanser or mild soap
  • Astringent or toner
  • Cotton balls
  • Acne cream
  • One egg white
  • One teaspoon honey
  • Two teaspoons oatmeal
  • Medium bowl
  • Ice cubes

How to Heal Blemishes

Wash face thoroughly with warm water and facial cleanser or mild soap twice a day. Pat dry with a hand towel. Apply a small amount of astringent or toner on a cotton ball and apply to face.

Apply acne cream or blemish healing lotion at nighttime over affected areas. Wash off in the morning.

Use a facial mask to remove excess oil and bacteria from your face. Common homemade facial masks can be made from ingredients such as egg whites or honey and oatmeal. Break one egg white into a bowl, and whisk for 1 minute. Apply to your face and allow the mask to dry. Wash face with warm water to remove mask. Add one teaspoon honey to two teaspoons oatmeal. Mix and apply to face. Allow mask to dry. Wash face with warm water to remove mask.

Fill a medium sized bowl with hot water. Hold face over the bowl, and cover head with a towel to trap in the steam. Hold for 1 minute. Lift head for 1 minute. Repeat for 20 minutes. The steam will help open pores and loosen trapped dirt and bacteria that causes blemishes.

Place four or five ice cubes in a towel or plastic bag. Apply to areas on your face where blemishes are present.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cleaning your face regularly will prevent the appearance or re-occurrence of blemishes.
  • Do not apply astringent, toner or acne cream to the lips or eyes. Flush eyes immediately with warm water if any of these chemicals enter the eye.
