How to Use Preparation H
Preparation H cream is used to help alleviate the pain and discomfort hemorrhoids in the anal area. Hemorrhoids can cause pain, itching and burning. Preparation H cream helps ease the symptoms of hemorrhoids by providing a temporary shrinkage of the hemorrhoid tissue, acting as an anesthetic and protecting the surrounding skin.

Purchase Preparation H cream. It can be found at a drugstore or in the pharmacy area of a supermarket.

Wash hands to insure cleanliness to the fragile anal skin. Latex gloves may be worn if desired.

Clean the hemorrhoid area. You can do this with warm soapy water or a wet toilet tissue wipe. Pat the area dry with a clean towel.

Squeeze a small amount of Preparation H cream onto the tip of fingers. Then, gently rub into the hemorrhoid tissue. Be careful to not apply too much pressure or cause more discomfort.

Attach dispensing cap if Preparation H is needed to soothe internal hemorrhoid discomfort. Insert the flexible rubber cap slightly into the anal canal, until the small openings are on the inside of the rectum, and squeeze a small amount of cream out of the tube.

Wash hands. Repeat applications as directed by a doctor.

Consult a physician before taking Preparation H cream. This is particularly imperative for patients with any heart problems, thyroid irregularities or diabetes.

If hemorrhoids don't improve, stop using Preparation H cream. Then, consult a physician, particularly if the condition worsens.
