Dark circles under the eyes can make you appear tired or stressed out. Sometimes they are temporary, caused by illness or lack of sleep. In some cases, you may have dark circles due to hereditary factors, such as blood vessels being situated near the surface of the skin. Dark circles also become more prominent as you age, and the fatty tissue under the eye becomes more prominent as the skin tissue thins. You can alleviate the appearance of or even remove dark circles under your eyes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tea bags Cucumber slices Green tea Concealer
  1. Step 1

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration can make dark circles more prominent, so staying hydrated is key.

  2. Step 2

Place a cold slice of cucumber on top of your eye for 10 minutes. This will help alleviate the puffiness that often accompanies dark circles and will also soothe the skin.

  3. Step 3

Place a cold tea bag on top of each eye for 10 minutes. The tannin in the tea will alleviate the swelling and help to constrict the blood vessels, reducing the darkness visibly.

  4. Step 4

Wash your face in cold water every morning. This will also help to constrict the blood vessels and will lighten the appearance of circles.

  5. Step 5

Cover them up. Cosmetic concealer sticks and creams with a yellow base tone will cancel out the blues and purples around the eye. Blend it in well and avoid caking it on -- a little goes a long way.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get plenty of sleep. Tired eyes are more prone to dark circles. Light-colored eyeshadow will downplay the appearance of circles, while dark colors will make them more obvious.
  • See your doctor immediately if you have a fever, are tired and listless, or have sinus congestion. Anemia, kidney disease and sinus infections can all lead to dark circles and must be treated by a doctor.
