How to Read the Task Manager
The Windows Task Manager is program designed to show the programs and processes running on a computer system. It can be used to terminate programs and processes, as well as view computer network connections and performances. It can also be used to shutdown, restart or change users. The Windows Task Manager is target by many viruses, spyware and malware applications. Understanding how to read it and perform basic functions helps remove current threats to keep your computer performing optimally.

Press "Ctrl," "Alt," and "Delete" to open the task manager.

Click the "Applications" tab. This window displays the applications currently running on the taskbar. To close a program, click it and click "End Task."

Click the "Processes" tab. This displays all functions and processes currently running on the computer. It includes programs that run on the background, such as Anti-virus programs, spyware and malware. To stop a process, scroll through and click the process you want and click "End Process." It is always recommended to end a program's process before uninstalling it.

Click the "Performance" tab. This shows the total amount of memory on your computer, as well as its usage. This usually changes with system updates and changes to configurations, as well as programs installed on your computer.

Click the "Networking" tab. This shows the network connections on your computer. On the base it shows the connections speeds in Mbps.

Click the "Users" tab. This shows who is currently logged on the computer, whether it is the administrator or a guest. Right-click the "User" and click "Log off" if you want to switch users.

Click the "Shut Down" button on the top menu. You can choose to shut down the computer, restart or log off and change the user.

Click "File" and click "Exit Task Manager" to close the task manager.
