Most teachers know that teaching through music is one of the best ways for students to learn a new language. Teaching Spanish through music is both fun and educational. Students not only learn the language with more ease, they also learn about different cultures where Spanish is spoken. Whether you have just started teaching Spanish or just started considering using music in your classroom, here are some tips to help you teach Spanish through music.

    • Spanish songs on CD or Spanish song downloads Lyrics to Spanish songs
      • 1

        Find music in Spanish that is relevant to level of the language you are teaching. For example, if you're teaching a beginning Spanish class, search for songs where the words are clear and they emphasize specific grammar usage being taught in the class. (See the Resource section below for songs in Spanish.)

        Find lyrics to popular songs in Spanish by doing an Internet search of the title followed by the word "lyrics." Copy and paste the lyrics into a word document and print copies for yourself and your students.

        Have the students listen to the song before reading the lyrics. Ask them to write down the words, phrases and verb conjugations that they recognize.

        Discuss and review some of the main words and phrases in the song. Play the music again; students will listen more actively if they're listening for certain words and phrases.

        Have a discussion with students about what is going on in the song after the song is finished playing. Ask questions about the theme or story in the song.

        Pass out copies of the lyrics to the students. Play the song again while they read the lyrics.

        Discuss the grammar and vocabulary lessons relevant to the Spanish song.
