Federal laws prohibit personal computers in landfills. In addition, it is illegal to dispose of a personal computer that contains user data. Personal computers contain lead and other hazardous materials that should be processed properly so they do not enter groundwater. To dispose of a PC, donate it to a local school or other organization, return it to the manufacturer or take it to a local computer recycling event.

  • Used personal computers contain hazardous material and, according to federal laws, must be disposed of like hazardous waste.
