      Begin by mixing 1 1/2 cups of flour with the following ingredients up through baking soda in a large plastic mixing bowl.

      Add the next three liquid ingredients---buttermilk, water and oil. Beat by hand with a spoon until moistened.

      Sprinkle in the remaining flour and stir until a soft, not stiff, dough forms.

      Prepare a countertop surface by sprinkling with flour. Turn the dough onto the counter, and knead for around five minutes. Allow the dough to sit on the counter for 10 minutes.

      Roll out the dough with the rolling pin until it is approximately 1/2 inch thick. Using the top of a glass or a biscuit cutter to make 14 rolls.

      Place biscuits on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400° until the tops are golden brown. This may depend on the oven, but should take around 15 minutes.

      Remove the rolls to a wire wack and brush with melted butter. Serve while warm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not over-knead the dough, as this will result in tough biscuits.

  • Do not use a metal mixing bowl. The yeast may adversely react with the metal.
