Things You'll Need:
- Electric hair clippers Hair shears Blade guard for hair clippers
-
Step 1
Trim your hair with hair shears if it is longer than 1 or 3 inches. Don't worry about cutting your hair evenly at this point. Cut your hair to about a finger's width away from your scalp so you don't have any short spots when you're finished.
-
Step 2
Attach a blade guard to your hair clippers. The blade guard has numbers that correspond to how long or short the clippers will cut your hair. If you set your blade guard to a higher number, your hair will be longer. If you set it to a lower number, your hair will be shorter.
-
Step 3
Trim your hair with the clippers. Because the blade guard is in place, you don't have to worry about shaving too much hair off. Continue to work thoroughly around your head until you have shaved across every surface, and your hair is completely even.
-
Step 4
Remove the blade guard to get a closer shave around your ears, sideburns and neck, if desired.
-
Step 5
Cut around your ears and neck with the clippers. You may want to have someone else do this part for you because it is difficult to get a precise cut while looking in a mirror. Work slowly and don't take off more hair than you have to.
