How to Connect an ADSL Modem
Browse the Internet at blazing broadband speeds using an ADSL, or DSL, modem. With a DSL modem powering your Internet connection, you can download media at speeds untouched by dial-up and more constant than cable connections. And setting up your DSL modem doesn't require an expert.

Plug a DSL filter into a telephone jack on the phone line carrying your DSL signal. Place DSL filters on every device currently occupying a phone jack on the line.

Connect the modem to the phone line. Plug one end of a phone cable into the port labeled "DSL" on the ADSL modem, and plug the other end of the cable into the port labeled "DSL" on the phone line filter.

Connect the modem to your computer via an Ethernet or USB cable. For Ethernet connections, connect one end of an Ethernet cable into the yellow "Ethernet" port on the back of the modem, and plug the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port on your computer's network card.

Plug the "B" end of a USB cable into the blue "USB" port on the back of the modem for USB connections, and plug the rectangular "A" end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer.

Plug the modem's power cable into the AC power port on the back of the modem, and plug the transformer end of the power adapter into a power outlet. Turn the modem on. Power on your computer.
