How do I Get a Job as a Pest Control Employee?
Pest control businesses offer different types of employment opportunities ranging from office work to field positions. When seeking pest control employment, state the desired employment objective on your résumé. For instance, if the desired position is in the office answering phones and scheduling, list this as an objective. For a position as a field operator, state that objective in your résumé. It also benefits to list educational background, experience and certifications that qualify you for the specific pest control employee position.

It also benefits to search for a list of local pest control operators in the area. If there are company websites, try to find out the name of the owner and/or hiring manager. Prepare several résumés with the desired position listed in the "Objective" portion. Prepare a cover letter addressed to the specific owner or hiring manager that addresses your qualifications. If you don't know a specific person use, "Dear Hiring Manager" in your salutation. Many employment websites provide online applications and opportunities to attach a cover letter and résumé. If employment opportunities are from a local newspaper or trade magazine, email, fax or mail the cover letter and résumé to the hiring manager.

Approximately three days after the résumés and cover letters have been mailed, follow up with phone calls to the prospective employers, preferably speaking to the person addressed in your cover letter. Try to get an interview even if the company indicates it is not hiring.

Earning a degree in Entomology or related area also benefits when seeking pest-control employment. It also helps to acquire certifications. Certification categories include general pest control, rodent control, termite control, fumigation, and lawn and ornamental. Orkin Pest Control, a national pest control company, has established its own Orkin University in Atlanta and specializes in pest control training in all categories.
