Startup programs on Windows operating systems are programs that automatically load and open when Windows boots or restarts. They include programs such as MSN and Yahoo Messenger, sound devices and antivirus programs. Most of these programs are set to load at startup by default when you install them on your computer. Many programs opening at the same time slows startup speed, but you can prevent them from automatically starting up when your computer boots.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Run."

  2. Step 2

Type "msconfig" (without quotes) and hit "Enter." This will bring you to the Systems Configuration Utility window.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Startup" tab. Remove a check from the programs you do not want to automatically start up when Windows starts. If you want to stop all the programs from automatically starting, click "Disable All."

  4. Step 4

Click "OK" to save changes and restart your computer. All the programs that were disabled will not automatically start when Windows restarts.
