With the increase in popularity of watching TV shows online, the need is arising for the ability to record and save TV shows for later viewing or for viewing on mobile devices or PDAs. To record online TV shows, a video capture application is required. Several low cost options are available and some software companies offer trial versions of their product for free. Replay Video Capture and NCH Capture are two economical software options for capturing and saving TV shows.

Instructions

      Obtain and install video capture software (see Resources).

      Open a browser and navigate to your favorite site streaming TV shows. Most major networks provide streaming versions of their popular shows (see Resources).

      Queue up the show you want to record. Pause the video player where you would like the recording to begin.

      Open the video capture application.

    • 5

      Specify the video window to record. If using Replay, click "Show Markers" and drag the corners of the highlighted box to enclose the video source window.

      Play the video by clicking the play arrow in the video player.

    • 7

      Immediately start the recording process by clicking the "Record" button on the video capture interface. The video capture software is now recording the TV show playing on your screen.

      Click "Stop" in the video capture interface to end the recording process when the show has completed.

      Save the file with a new file name. If the file is not renamed, the file is named according to the date/time stamp by default.

    • 10

      Play back the recorded video to verify. Use the video capture software or a compatible video player to play the recorded file. The file may now be converted to another video file type or played in a compatible video player in its current form.
