How to Replace Wheels on Roller Blades

Cement, holes and gravel can damage your roller blades. Always check the integrity of your blades before skating to ensure a safe ride. Keep up top-speed performance by regularly replacing old roller blades.

  1. Replacing Your Blades

    • 1

      Purchase the correct size and brand of wheels at your local sporting goods store.

    • 2

      Hold down the side of the axle as you twist counterclockwise until the old wheels are released.

    • 3

      Check out the axle and breaks for damage. Wipe off any dirt in cracks.

    • 4

      Line up your new blade with the axle hole and slide the axle into place.

    • 5

      Screw the nut onto the corresponding axle on the opposite side.

    • 6

      Spray each bearing area with lube to ensure smooth rotation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bring your skate with you to the store to you make sure you buy the correct wheel. Check to see that wheel bearings are included.

  • Rotate your wheels from front to back to prolong replacing them.

  • Never use a wheel that is too small for your roller blades.
