How to Make a Glassy Logo in Photoshop

You will no doubt have noticed that many of the websites you visit like to have buttons, logos and other graphic elements with a glassy appearance. A glassy logo, for instance, makes your name or that of your business look much more modern and sophisticated than a flat 2d image normally would. If you want to make your own glassy logo, you can do it using Photoshop.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop. Select "File" and click "New." Make the height and width whatever you need for your project. Make the background "Transparent."

    • 2

Change the "Foreground" color to what you want the color of the logo to be.

    • 3

Right-click "Custom Shape" and select the "Rounded Rectangle" tool. Use the tool to drag a rectangle on the canvas. Change the "Foreground" color again, select the "Text" tool and type in some text on the rectangle. Go to "Layer" and select "Rasterize Type." Select the other layer and select "Rasterize." Select "Layers" and click "Merge Down."

    • 4

Select "FX" at the bottom of "Layers," click "Bevel and Emboss" and make the size about 10.

    • 5

Select "FX" again and click "Inner Shadow." Set the "Blend Mode" to Screen, "Opacity" to 30 to 40 percent, "Angle" to 90, and "Distance" to 40 (though this last one depends on the side of your image). Finally, set "Size" to 0. Save your image as a GIF or a TIFF file to preserve the transparency.
