Oven bags are plastic, but they are created to withstand the heat of an oven. Using an oven bag is convenient because it keeps you from dirtying any dishes. The main plus to using a cooking bag is that it allows you to cook meat and vegetables all in one bag. The bag will also keep the heat inside of the bag, which cooks the food a little faster. Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Oven bag Flour Roasting pan Knife
      • 1

Open your oven bag and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of flour inside.

      • 2

Tie the oven bag up and shake the flour so that it coats the inside surface of the oven bag.

      • 3

Untie the oven bag and place it in a roasting pan.

      • 4

Place your meat and any vegetables you want to cook in the oven bag. If you have any sauce for the meat and vegetables, you can pour it in.

      • 5

Tie the oven bag shut with the twist tie that came with the oven bag. Make sure the oven bag is positioned in a way that you can tie it on one side.

      • 6

Use a knife to punch four to six holes in the top of the oven bag. This allows the steam to escape.

      • 7

Cook the food as directed in the recipe you are using. When the food is finished, use your knife to cut open the cooking bag.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Beef, chicken, turkey, pork and ham are all good candidates for oven bags.

    • When you open the cooking bag, a large amount of hot steam will escape. Make sure you are not leaning over the bag when you do this or you will suffer a nasty burn.
