Selling Walmart Stock That You Own
-
1
Check Walmart's investor relations information if you are unsure about selling your Walmart stock. See the Resources section for a link to this website. Walmart investor relations will provide you with the latest news, earnings per share estimates and other important shareholder information.
-
2
Contact the institution holding your Walmart stock. This will be the firm from which you receive your monthly Walmart stock statements.
-
-
3
Discuss the price at which you want to sell your Walmart stock with your broker.
-
4
Use the appropriate sales order for how you want to trade your stock. For example, a good-til-cancelled (GTC) order will be placed in the market for a price you determine. This order will remain active until it is exercised at this price or until you choose to cancel it. A market order will place an order to sell at the current market price. See the Resources section for more information on different types of sales orders.
-
5
Place an order in the market to sell your stock.
-
6
Receive a confirmation of your executed sale of Walmart stock. This information will include the price at which the stock was sold, the number of shares sold and the commission or sales charges associated with the trade.
Selling Short Walmart stock
-
7
Invest in Walmart stock by establishing a short position. When selling a stock short, you are selling something that you do not own. This type of trading strategy seeks to profit from a sharp decline in Walmart stock prices. For example if you sell Walmart stock short at $50 and later buy Walmart stock when its price drops to $30, you have made $20 per share (not including fees and commissions). See the Resources section for more information on selling short.
-
8
Sell Walmart stock short and establish this position with your brokerage firm.
-
9
Receive confirmation from your broker on the price at which the short sale was executed, the number of shares you have sold and the related commission charge.
-
10
Place an order to buy Walmart stock in the market at this time or at a set time in the future. Investors profit in a short stock sale by selling Walmart stock at a high price and then buying it back at a lower price. Once the stock has been bought, a long position is established. This long position cancels out your previous short position, so you will have completed the transaction and be completely out of the stock market in Walmart shares.
