How to Ease a Toothache

Ease a Toothache
Ease a Toothache

This is a very easy way to stop or ease some of the most painful toothaches without having to go to the dentist. We all know a toothache feels like the worst pain in the world and sometime we need relief before we can make it to the dentist. This is simply a temporary fix until you can make it to the dentist, I do not suggest repeating this over and over.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

One way is to gargle warm salt water. Hot or Cold water will only aggrevate the tooth, make sure its just warm water for best results.

  2. Step 2

Anything you would use for a headache you could use for a toothache (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc). If you use aspirin do not touch it directly to the tooth, be sure to swallow it, the pill on in the tooth will only make it raw and cause it to hurt worse.

  3. Step 3

Ice will help shut down some of the nerves in the tooth thats causing the pain. Do not apply the ice directly to the tooth though, wrap it up on some kind of cloth and hold it to the part of ur mouth thats hurting.

  4. Step 4

Benzocaine is an over the counter anesthetic that will help if theres a large cavity or alot of damage done to the tooth.

  5. Step 5

Avoid heat, heating pads will only make the nerve more sensitive. Staying away from the extremes of both temperatures is best either hot or cold drinks will only make the tooth hurt worse.

  6. Step 6

Use the ice. A neat trick is that the nerves that run in your mouth also run inbetween your thumb and index finger, so if you rub a piece of ice in that V shaped spot for 5 to 7 minutes until it goes numb it will significantly ease the pain of a toothache

Tips & Warnings
  • This is only a temporary fix for a throbbing toothache, not a permanent fix, i suggest as soon as u can get to the dentist you go
