It is pretty easy to join the Army, you just talk to a recruiter and he will do most of the work to get you in.
There are a lot of misconceptions about who can and can't join though. Let me help clear them up for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A desire to serve our country.
  1. Step 1

Go to the recruiting station and talk to a recruiter.

  2. Step 2

Tell the recruiter right away if you have ever been convicted of any crime.

  3. Step 3

If you have allergies to something, DON'T TELL THE RECRUITER YET!!!! At least not right away.

  4. Step 4

Fill out the paperwork that they give you.

  5. Step 5

Tell the recruiter what you want or what you MUST have. Maybe you want a huge sign on bonus, computer training or you want to go to Germany.
He will listen to your demands, but probably not make any guarantees until you take the ASVAB test.

  6. Step 6

Go to the book store and get a study guide for the ASVAB test. Study it as much as you possibly can for the next couple of weeks.

  7. Step 7

Go take the ASVAB test at the recruiting station.
The higher the score you get, the more jobs you will qualify for.

  8. Step 8

After you take the ASVAB, you will find out your results in a couple of days. Then you talk to the recruiter again. They will tell you what you will qualify for as far as jobs. If you don't get a high enough score, you will get stuck with the worst choices of jobs in the Army, IE, Infantry, Cook, Truck Driver, things like that. You don't want to get stuck with just a few bad choices on the bottom of the list, so try to do good on it!

  9. Step 9

Now you can talk to the recruiter some more about getting a guaranteed duty station of choice and MOS (Military Ocupation Specialty) of choice. (I was guarenteed Ft. Hood, TX and Mannheim, Germany. Both were great locations.)

  10. Step 10

Next you will have to see a Doctor. He will make sure you don't have any health problems. He will also ask you some questions about your general health.
If s/he doesn't ask a specific question about your health, DON'T TELL THEM ABOUT IT!!! That could prevent you from getting in.

  11. Step 11

The Doctor is the only one who can prevent you from getting in the Army for medical reasons. Once the Doctor clears you, you are good to go. You will be in.

  12. Step 12

Now that all the paperwork is done, you have picked out your job and duty station, you wait until your shipping date. That could be any where from a couple weeks to several months.
On your shipping date, you go back to the recruiting station and they send you off to Basic Training. After that you go to Advanced Training, then to your duty station.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring someone with you who has already been in the Army the first time you go to the recruiter. They can act like a Lawyer, for lack of a better term. They can help you get a better deal and prevent the recruiter from treating you bad. That person will also get paid $2,000 from the Army for going with you.
  • People often say you can't get in the Army if you have ADHD, allergies to Milk, flat feet or asthma. NOT TOTALLY TRUE! I am allergic to milk, have flat feet and ADHD and I got in the Army. I knew some other people with similar problems and a few other people who had asthma.
  • The best thing to do if you have serious allergies, Asthma, ADHD or something similar is don't tell the recruiters or Doctors. They don't need to know. They will not check your civilian records and if they know, it could cause a problem for you getting in. As long as you don't have to take Ritalin or other drugs that will make it obvious, you can hide your problems like these very easily. I did!
