Step 1
BROWN THE MEAT - Brown the chicken on the stove top. If you will be cooking it on the stove top also use a pot that you can fill with enough liquid to reach at least half way up the meat. If you will be cooking it in the oven, you will need to transfer the browned meat to an oven safe dish.

ADD LIQUIDS - Add your vegetables, seasonings and liquid such as water or chicken stock. You can use other stocks such as vegetable or beef stock or wine, it depends on the flavor that you are seeking. Make sure your chicken is in the pot or oven safe dish that you will be cooking it in before you add the vegetables and stock.

Step 3
COOK - Cook the chicken, vegetables and stock either on the stove top on simmer or in the oven at a very low temperature. Your chicken should be covered the entire time and there is no need for you to turn the chicken. You should cook it for about forty five minutes to an hour for a whole chicken.
