Advance your Sim’s Career in The Sims 3

There are several things you can do to help your Sim’s career advance. Some of these will be familiar, others will be new. All of them are worth a few hours of your Sim’s time to make life at work easier.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to work feeling good. This is the oldest, easiest trick on the book that will help lead to a successful career. A full shower, a good breakfast and a little fun before you head to the office will go a long way.

  2. Step 2

Work from home. Many Sims love to do this, especially if they are Workaholics. Simply go to your Sim’s computer and select the “Work From Home” option. Similar to completing years of school, your Sims have a meter for work, to show when their next promotion is. Working from Home gives the meter a good boost, bringing that promotion ever closer.

  3. Step 3

Work on your skills. Most Sims will want to do this anyway, especially if they are home bodies. When your career requires certain skills, it will let you know which ones you should work on in the Career tab. Having the right skills is essential to getting promoted past a certain point.

  4. Step 4

Make friends. Even shut-ins will want to do this occasionally. Having friends will not only give your Sim a Social boost (if you talk to them,) it will help them get promoted and will present them with career-related Opportunities!

  5. Step 5

Check out the Perks. There are several Perks (which are purchased with Lifetime Happiness Points) that can be instrumental in getting your Sim promoted quickly. Picking a few of these can make your Sim’s work life much easier.

  6. Step 6

Do different things at work. Now, whenever you’re a work, you can choose what your Sim is doing (just like you can choose what kind of exercise workout they do.) Different types of work will have different effects. Some get you promoted faster, others earn more money and some leave your Sim happier at the end of their shift. Experiment a little and see what you get. The results also vary by your Sim’s Perks, Traits and a few other factors, so what holds true for one Sim may not be true for another.

on 7/6/2009 Your Sim needs to have a "regular" job in order to work from home. Once you've got a regular job, click on your Sim's computer and look for "Work From Home."

on 7/4/2009 Very Nice. But where is the "Work from Home" option? I've never seen it.
