This salt free gravy is the best gravy I have ever had. Although simple it took me years of cooking to figure it out. Great for senior citizens watching their salt intake for blood pressure maintenance. I always make it when I am roasting a pot roast or roasting a turkey because you will be using the stock from the roast and draining all the juices into a saucepan. That is why you are going to put enough water in with your roast before you start to cook the roast. Also add ½ a cup of chopped onion on top of your roast. When the roast is cooked save all the broth. You should have ½ a saucepan full of broth. Here is how to do it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Roasting Pan with cover
  • 3 quart saucepan
  • Roast
  • Onion
  • Corn Starch
  • Gravy Master
  1. Step 1

Use a large covered pot roast pan or turkey roaster to cook your roast in.

  2. Step 2

Fill the pan ½ full with water so ½ your roast is covered.

  3. Step 3

Add ½ cup chopped onion to the top and in the water of the roast.

  4. Step 4

When the roast is done save ALL the water and meat juices with the onion and pour it all into a 3 quart saucepan. Include any pulp that is left in the pan to your saucepan. Is this starting to make you hungry?

  5. Step 5

Measure a cup of COLD water and mix about a ½ cup corn starch to it. Stir the corn starch in the cold water before introducing it to the boiling saucepan. That is the only way the corn starch with dissolve is in COLD water and you do not want lumpy gravy.

  6. Step 6

Slowly pour the water/corn starch mixture in the boiling broth stock. Keep boiling it also. You will see it getting thicker and thicker. Last but not least add some Gravy Master for a darker color and flavor. Start with a tablespoon of it as you will have a large 3 quart saucepan of gravy. You can buy a bottle of this in the grocery store. It has a very tiny bit of salt in it.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are having trouble with the consistency add more Corn Starch but always mix it with COLD water before adding it to the boiling broth stock juice.
  • Always use caution with boiling liquids on the stove, especially with small children around. Use the back burner and always turn the handles toward the back of the stove.
