-
Step 1

If your not ready to complete give up having someone mow your lawn you could do it your self every other time or once a month and still save money. -
Step 2
Fertilize your own lawn. Each year your lawn needs to be fertilized. It also may need to weeds and bugs killed. Lawn care companies will provide this easy do-it-yourself yard maintenance for about $50 a treatment. The first thing you will need to do is head to a local home improvement store and purchase a spreader, fertilizer or a weed and feed fertilizer, and a bug killer if needed. Spread on yard a couple of time during the summer for a green healthy yard. You can visit www.scotts.com for advice on getting the best yard possible with out using a lawn care service.

Step 3
Plant and maintain your own flower beds. You don't need a horticultural degree to take care of your landscaping. Your local nursery will help you choose flowers for your type of soil and light condition. Weeding you flower beds is a little time consuming but very rewarding. If you don't want to weed as much you can spread a product called PREEN on your beds and it will not let the weed seed germinate. It also stunts the growth of weeds that do grow which makes them very easy to remove.

Step 4
Paint your house your self. If you have a house that needs to be stained or painted every few years doing it your self will save thousands of dollars. This is a great family summer project. The only cost you will have is the cost of brushes and paint or stain. Your time is where you will save big.

Step 5
Re-roof your own house. If you have a roof that isn't too steep re roofing your own roof will save thousands. Roofing is a big job and is best done with a couple of friends but can be done by the average home owner. You may need to rent a dumpster for the old shingles, a nail gun, and an air compressor. A hammer and nail works perfectly fine for roofing but the rental expense it definitely worth the money for this job. You local home improvement store will help you select the right shingles for your house and anything else you will need for the job.

Step 6
Clean your own pool. If you have a pool it requires weekly routine maintenance and chemical checks. You will need to check the water level and add more if needed, check the chemicals with a test strip and adjust if necessary, vaccuum, and backwash your filter.
