Instructions

    • 1

Locate the area where you see the most moths. Check the area for signs if infestation, including sightings of many moths, pupa or small web-like masses. Place moths and larvae in well-sealed plastic bags and place them in an outdoor trashcan. Remove food items and clean the area with hot water and vinegar to remove eggs and feces.

    • 2

Look for cardboard and paper containers with small round holes reflecting boring by the moths. Look also for dusty, powdered remains of the food on shelves and inside the packages. Dispose of any food that the moths have invaded in an outdoor trashcan.

    • 3

Seal cereals, pasta, rice and other grains in glass or sealable plastic containers when you bring them in from the store. Indian meal moths can bore into cardboard, paper and plastic wrap. Store bulk items such as pet food and birdseed in a garage rather than in the pantry.

    • 4

Replace pet food daily and clean up any bits lying on the floor or in the cage. Dispose of birdseed remnants outside the home, as the moths will breed in indoor trashcans that contain food sources.
