How to be Pen Pals with a Soldier

Whether you agree with the war or not , it is important that everyone supports our troops . One of the best ways to support the troops is to become a Pen pal with a soldier . Your letters will raise a soldier spirits and show how much you appreciate everything the armed forces do for us .

1. Getting Started

   There are many great websites that offer soldier Pen pal programs . One great one is supportyourtroops.us , the service is free and quite easy to use . This particular website currently connects a pen pal to 7,000 men and women serving in Iraq. I have included more soldier pen pal websites in my resources section below. Some websites ask for a donation to use their service but most are free.

2. Write and Send

   Once you have decided on which website you would like to use , you are ready to send your letter/package . When writing your letter just be yourself but be careful with sarcasm and humor It's hard to tell when somebody is joking around or serious with text and writing. Be sure to thank the soldier and offer a kind word of support.

   Note : If you decide to include a package along with your letter , there are certain necessities that you should include . The items most requested are things like hand soap, shampoo, toothpaste, cards, board games, puzzle books, dvd's, cd's etc.

3. Wait

   Be patient as it may take 2 - 3 weeks to receive a response .

4. Write Back

   Once you receive a response , be sure to promptly write back .
