There are some sippy cups that are designed to transition baby from bottle to cup. So buy a sippy cup that has a similar suction to the bottle the baby has been using. Before you completely switch the baby to the new baby cup you need to know that she is able to drink from it.

In the sippy cup, pour the drink that she's used to drinking from the bottle. Give the baby sippy cup to your child at the same time that you would give the bottle. If your child closes her eyes when she drinks, then don't let her see the sippy cup. Give her the baby cup after her eyes are closed like if you're giving her the bottle. She will notice the difference, but try and see how she reacts. If she's hungry she will continue to try and suck a different way to get milk out. Try this for a few sips and see how well she does. If she's not able to drink at all try again a few days later.

Slowly continue with the process. Give her a few sips at a time. Some babies struggle a bit a first but then get used to the new sippy. Do not force your child to drink out of a sippy cup if she still doesn't completely know how to such from it.

Stop using the bottle when you know your child can fully use the baby cup. Do not have any baby bottles visible around the house especially when you're offering the baby sippy cup because they will naturally want to bottle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some infants can drink from a straw so you can choose a spill proof sippy cup with a straw to transition. The first cup should be comfortable for the child.

  • Expect crying.

  • Always properly sanitize the new baby cup before using it on your child.
