HDMI Cable

An HDMI cable is necessary to get a digital signal (HDTV) on your television. That's the most common use. But HDMI cables can also be used with gaming systems, computers, Blue-ray disc players, and many video cameras. Your needs will dictate the best HDMI cable you need for the job. Read on to learn the basics on connecting an HDMI cable to a television to get a clear, crisp picture and the highest quality sound.

Instructions

    • 1
      HDMI cable

Purchase an HDMI cable (most TVs have a 19 HDMI pin) that is long enough to reach between the television and your TV satellite box. Shorter HDMI cables are cheaper, but if they're pulled too taunt you risk disconnecting the cable from either the box or the TV losing the signal.

    • 2
      HDMI Input Port

Locate the HDMI input on the back or side of your television. If it's labeled, the female connection port on the television will say "HDMI IN." If it's not, check out the picture to see what type of port you're looking for. If you have more than one port, put the HDMI cable in the primary port (HDMI 1).

    • 3

Locate the HDMI output port on the back of your satellite box or digital receiver. It will also be a female port and will look the same as the television input.

    • 4

Making sure the HDMI cable is not twisted or kinked, plug the other end into the box or HD receiver.

Double check that both ends of the HDMI cable are tightly connected to the equipment to ensure you get a strong signal.
