Step 1
To become a penpal to a soldier overseas, please go to the link I have provided in the resource section.
-
Step 2
On that webpage, you will fill out a form and request a soldier's name to become penpals with. They will usually limit you to one or two soldiers at a time.
-
Step 3
Once you are a penpal to a soldier overseas, start off by writing them a letter. In this letter you can tell them a little bit about yourself and why you want to be penpals with them. Let them know that you are willing to send them anything that they might need in a care package.
-
Step 4
If your penpal soldier requests something in his/her response, the post office now provides flat rate boxes to be sent overseas. When I was in Iraq, I received countless care packages filled of baby wipes, lotion, chap stick, and candy. These are perfect items to put in a care package. To mail the package use the soldier's full name and include the unit and APO/FPO code. If you are unsure of this information, look for the return address on the letter you received.
-
Step 5
If you have any questions on how to mail a package to your soldier, please visit the USPS's website I have included in the resource section. I salute you for wanting to become a penpal to a soldier overseas!

on 6/26/2009 This is what all of us should do with our soldiers. They love getting mail from people back in the states and appreciate knowing that they are not doing their job for nothing. Great article, 5 and rec.
