A rash from Poison Ivy can cause agony if left untreated. It is an allergic reaction to contact with the oil of the poison ivy plant. Poison ivy grows low to the ground in shrubs or in vines. Symptoms will normally develop within 24 to 72 hours of contact. These symptoms may include an itchy, blistering rash, a rash that may “weep”, or a rash that appears in straight lines or streaks. If you think you have been in contact with this plant there are some simple poison ivy treatments you may already have in your home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 parts water
  • 1 part powdered milk
  • pinch of salt
  1. Step 1

Wash anything which may have been exposed to poison ivy. The oils on the plan can rub off onto another part of your body or to someone else. The rash itself is not contagious, but the oil can be transferred. Wash your hair, body, clothing; pets are any items you may have had with you. Wash your clothes separate from other clothing not exposed. Make sure to scrub between your fingers and under your finger nails if your hands have been exposed.

  2. Step 2

Mix one part powdered milk with tow parts of water and add a pinch of salt. The milk powder will ease irritation and the salt will absorb the poison ivy oils from the skin.

  3. Step 3

Apply the poison ivy remedy mixture to the infected area using a cloth.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not have the above ingredients. Soak a cloth in cold full fat milk and wrap the cloth around the infected area.
  • If infected area is large, try adding ½ cup dry milk to lukewarm water and soak in the tub.
