Make a Tablecloth from Pillowcases

Try this creative way to reuse old or unwanted pillowcases that are still in good condition. A tablecloth derived from pillowcases is an inexpensive way to dress up a table in your home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 matching pillowcases
  • seam ripper
  • stitchery witchery
  • thread
  • sewing needle
  • sewing machine(optional)
  • iron
  • ironing board
  • press cloth
  • scissors
  • ruler
  1. Step 1

Use seam ripper to undo the side seam and bottom seam of both pillow cases.

  2. Step 2

    Iron both pillow cases.

  3. Step 3

Align the longer ripped seams of the pillow cases and sew them together (ideally a color matching the fabric). This forms the center of the tablecloth.

  4. Step 4

The tablecloth is now noticeably longer than wide. To shorten, measure lengthwise from the center of the tablecloth approximately 20 inches, in both directions (40 inches total) and cut away excess fabric beyond the 20 inch point.

  5. Step 5

Fold ends of the tablecloth approximately 1/2 inch forming a smooth seam on all four sides. Do one side at a time, using stitchery witchery or sew if one prefers to do so.

  6. Step 6

Place tablecloth on table and dress it up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Two pillow cases will work for a 32 square inch table or smaller.
  • Try using embroidery stitching or appliques for added detail.
  • Some stitchery witchery doesn't require a press cloth. Read instructions on the package to be sure.
  • When folding the ends of the tablecloth, consider the thickness of the table top and how much fabric should hang off the table.
  • Use a table runner or other decorative means to cover the center seam of the tablecloth.
