Gmail is a free email service provided by Google. It is popular among Internet users because it gives virtually unlimited storage and can be personalized. You can configure your Gmail account by going into the settings and choosing from among the various options that will customize your experience.

From Quick Guide: Email Service Guide
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign into your Gmail account and click the "Settings" link on the upper part of the page. This will open the settings for your Gmail account and allow you to configure them to suit your preferences.

  2. Step 2

Under the "General" tab, configure your Gmail inbox to display your preferred number of messages using the drop-down box. This tab will also allow you to add a signature that will automatically be added to the end of your messages.

  3. Step 3

Under the "Accounts" tab, type in the name and return address that should appear on your outgoing messages. This information will be used every time you send a message via your Gmail account.

  4. Step 4

Under the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab, set Gmail to forward copies of your incoming messages to another email account, if desired. You can also configure POP downloads and IMAP access from this tab.

  5. Step 5

Click the "Accounts" tab, select "Google Account Settings" from the list of options, and choose "Change Password" in your personal settings. Change your password when you configure your Gmail account or make any changes to ensure your account is protected.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to organize your email by category, click the "Labels" tab under "Settings" to create your labels. For example, if you want to designate and archive emails from your employer, create a label called "Work." You can now add the label, either manually or automatically, to any work-related emails. Use the "Filters" option to set up automatic label application. Change your password regularly to protect your Gmail account from unauthorized access.
