Instructions

    • 1

Place the milk, sugar, salt and vanilla extract into a large mixing bowl and stir well.

    • 2

Add the chocolate chips to the ice milk and mix well enough to incorporate the chips throughout the mixture. This step is optional: The chocolate chips are unnecessary, and you could also add almonds, pecans, candy pieces or any other flavoring you like instead---or no additional flavoring at all.

    • 3

Cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Refrigeration helps cool the ingredients down, and it also causes the ice milk mixture to thicken, which helps in the freezing process.

    • 4

Pour the mixture into an ice cream freezer (if you have one) and follow the manufacturer instructions. If you do not have an ice cream freezer, pour the ice milk mixture into a 9-by-13-inch baking pan and place it in the freezer for 2 to 4 hours. Remove the ice milk from the pan and place it in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth.
