Mineral foundation is a light powder or liquid foundation that provides light to medium coverage, depending on the brand. This natural foundation contains minerals, such as titanium dioxide and mica. Mineral foundation is generally free of fragrance or irritating chemicals, which makes it a safe choice for acne-prone or sensitive skin. A dense foundation brush is recommended for mineral foundation application as it will pick up adequate amounts of product.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mineral foundation A dense foundation brush, such as a flat-top foundation brush or kabuki brush, for loose or pressed foundation A dual-fiber stippling brush or foundation brush for liquid mineral foundation Facial cleanser Facial moisturizer Foundation primer
  1. Step 1

Wash your face thoroughly. Use a mild facial cleanser and dry your face. Mineral makeup applies best on clean skin free of oils and residue.

  2. Step 2

Moisturize your face with your choice of facial moisturizer. Choose a moisturizer with SPF protection, even if you aren't in the sun that much; harmful UV rays can affect your face even on cloudy days. Gently work the moisturizer into your face and allow it to set for about ten minutes.

  3. Step 3

Apply a foundation primer. This will prepare the skin for the mineral foundation. Primer helps your foundation go on smoothly and last longer throughout the day. Allow five to ten minutes for the primer to set.

  4. Step 4

Open your mineral foundation. Then, gently sift a small amount of product into the container's lid if you are using a loose mineral foundation. Swirl your kabuki or foundation brush in the minerals to pick up the foundation. Tap the brush against the lid's container to remove excess powder from your brush. Use the lid to catch the excess foundation so it can be reused.

  5. Step 5

Pick up pressed mineral foundation. Accomplish this by dusting your brush across the surface of the pressed powder. Use a kabuki or foundation brush for pressed foundation. Tap your brush against a hard service to remove any excess powder.

  6. Step 6

Use a stippling brush or dense foundation brush to pick up liquid mineral foundation. Apply a small amount of liquid foundation to your brush.

  7. Step 7

Apply the foundation to your skin.Do this by applying the brush to your face and moving it in small, circular motions. Start in the center of your face and work the foundation out into the chin, cheeks and forehead. Buff powder products into the skin by swirling your brush against your skin. Use light, stippling motions to blend liquid foundation evenly. Pick up additional product as needed until your face is evenly covered with mineral foundation.

  8. Step 8

Apply a sheer finishing mineral powder. Do so with a kabuki brush to set your foundation. Setting your foundation helps your makeup stay in place and last longer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Apply small amounts of foundation at a time to ensure even coverage and to prevent product waste. Apply a second layer of mineral foundation on top of the first layer for more coverage. Apply less foundation for sheer coverage.
