Orchids are beautiful plants to keep indoors. They are semi-easy to care for and grow if you follow some care instructions. You need to know how to care for a potted orchid so that the plant thrives indoors and stays healthy for years. Orchids are a preferred houseplant because of the beautiful flowers that appear when the plant is cared for correctly. You do have to be careful of how much water and sunlight you give the orchid.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Orchid fertilizer Support pole
  1. Step 1

Support the orchid properly. Some orchids will need a pole or growing support resembling a tree bark to help it stand tall. It is important to provide correct support for the orchid.

  2. Step 2

Give the orchid just the right amount of light. Place the orchid near a window with indirect sunlight. The orchid will not do as well in a north window as they will in an east or south window.

  3. Step 3

Provide food and water to the orchid to promote healthy growth. Water the plant as the orchid mix dries. Do not keep the mix wet at all times or the roots will become unhealthy and start to die. Use orchid fertilizer for feeding the orchid. Do not use an off-the-shelf fertilizer that is meant for all plants. Weekly feeding is appropriate if the fertilizer is diluted.
