Resetting the BIOS in a Toshiba computing solution can often result in system instabilities being eliminated. Further, it can help remove detrimental effects applied by a user accidentally while attempting to configure the BIOS settings. While the BIOS can be a very complicated place, resetting the BIOS does not have to be complicated, and if you are careful, you can easily reset your BIOS to default settings.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Restart your computer and press the key asked for to enter the Toshiba BIOS setup on the boot screen.

  2. Step 2

Move through each of the BIOS's screens by pressing the left and right arrow keys until you see exit options, such as "Exit Without Saving" or "Save Changes and Exit." The current screen will be highlighted in the upper portion of the monitor as either "Exit" or "Save." You will not be required to enter any subscreens during this process.

  3. Step 3

Review this "Exit" screen and search for the heading "Restore Defaults" or "Load Default Settings" and press the corresponding key.

  4. Step 4

Select the "Yes" or "OK" option when asked if you really want to reset the BIOS setting.

  5. Step 5

Restart the computer and reenter the BIOS to check if the settings you wanted set to default have in fact been changed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Though these instructions are a guideline for all Toshiba BIOS restores, it is always wise to refer to your specific machine's operating manual. It will provide specific instructions for your specific Toshiba BIOS version.
  • A computer's BIOS controls are very specific and important hardware settings. It is paramount that you understand what settings you are changing and why you are changing them since improper setting may lead to system failure.
