How to Reset a TI-84 Calculator

Graphing calculators continue to gain importance for use in standardized testing and in classroom work. Simultaneously, more programs are being created for these calculators--both for entertainment and to perform complex mathematical tasks. The problem arises when you have installed some programs on your calculator and want to use the calculator for a test. Most tests, especially those used for college entrance, require that your calculator be cleared of programs before the exam. While erasing your programs will cause them to be lost, you can accomplish task in minutes before the test begins.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Enter the memory options by selecting "Mem." Press the "2nd" key followed by the "+" key. Select "Reset" from the memory choices. Use the arrow key to select and delete all memory.

  2. Step 2

    After choosing to delete all memory, select "Reset." After this reset, your screen should show "Mem Cleared." Once you have reached this screen, press "Enter." If you installed programs or applications, you may need to remove them manually. Once again, enter the "Mem" command.

  3. Step 3

    Press "2" to select Memory Management. If you are deleting programs, input that option from the subsequent menu choices. If you need to remove applications, input that choice and press "Enter. Select the application or program from the list displayed. Press "Del" to request the deletion. Choose "Yes" to confirm your choice.

  4. Step 4

    Repeat this process to delete remaining programs manually. After completing this, exit the memory menu and press the "Apps" button. Make sure no applications remain. Additionally, press the "Prgm" button, and check that all programs have been removed.

Tips & Warnings
  • If deleting this information to make your calculator eligible for exams, make sure not to delete programs that are allowed.
  • Once deleted, there is no recovery system on a calculator.
