How to Create Bookmarkers

Bookmarks can be a nice addition when giving a book or gift card to a book lover on your list. You can create a pretty bookmarker using scrapbook materials. While anything can be used in a pinch--business cards or scrap paper for example--a handmade bookmark is much more attractive. This will also put an end to annoying folded corners that damage the book. Keep in mind the interests of the recipient and decorate the bookmark to complement their tastes.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 6 by 2 inch rectangle from card stock. Pretty card stock is available at craft and scrapbooking stores.

    • 2

Punch a hole in the center of the top of the bookmark.

    • 3

Cut a 10-inch length of 1/4-inch-wide fabric ribbon. Fold in half and slide the loop through the punched hole. Pull the ends of the ribbon through the loop to secure.

    • 4

Embellish the bookmark with stickers, or glue on scrapbook cut-outs. Stamping is another way to personalize the bookmark.

Tips & Warnings

  • String a few beads onto the ribbon ends and tie them on securely. Laminate or use clear contact paper to protect the bookmark for years to come.
