How to Use a Mouthguard
Mouth guards, a flexible cover made of plastic worn over the top row of teeth to protect the wearer against trauma to the teeth, are an essential part of sports equipment and safety. Mouth guards are recommended by the American Dental Association for use in hockey, football, skiing, softball, wrestling, soccer, lacrosse, rugby, in-line skating, martial arts, skateboarding, bicycling, boxing and field hockey. When properly selected, used and cared for, a mouth guard can protect the wearer against a wide variety of sports-related injuries.

Tips & Warnings
Colored mouth guards might be easier to find if lost. Mouth guards can prevent a wide range of injuries, including lacerations to the mouth area, fractures to facial bones and teeth, tooth displacements, concussions, unconsciousness, and some neck injures. Wearing your mouth guard during practice sessions can help you get used to it, so it will be more comfortable during games.
Once set, keep your mouth guard away from hot water, as this might damage it or decrease its effectiveness. Do not chew on your mouth guard while using it. Do not share your mouth guard with others. Remove retainers or other dental appliances before wearing the mouth guard.
